        "My grandfather was John Dwyer of Weehawkin and Jersey City, NJ. His father is Patrick Frances, whose brother was John Dwyer, but went by Jack. Everyone on my family tree is named John, Patrick, Frances, Kathleen or Annastasia. Very confusing. I don't have dates or ages though. Jack was married to Mary and they had 3 kids; Annastasia, Joan and Gerald. Sound familiar at all? If so, please contact me. Thanks. "

    DOHERTY, DWYER, HAMMILL posted by Mimi Steffen on Sunday, September 28, 1997

         I am looking for descendants of Patrick DOHERTY (1851-1921) and Mary DWYER (1862-1926). In 1900 they lived at 166 Grand Avenue in Jersey City.
         Their children were: Mary; Agnes (1881-1947) m. ? HAMMILL; Sarah (1883-1900); Monica b. 1886; James b. 1887; Robert b. 1888; Edward b. 1890;
         Hugh b. 1893; and Thomas b. 1896 DOHERTY. A grandson, Hugh F. DOHERTY attended St. Peter's and was a football player there from 1907 to 1909.
         His older brother Bob was also into athletics at St. Peters. Bob was an assistant County Counsel. I am a descendant of Patrick's uncle, James DOHERTY. I
         live near Honesdale, PA near where the family settled upon emigration from Ireland in 1861. Thank you.

    You might want to try St. Peter's Cemetery on Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City. Their records are now being kept by Holy Name Cemetery in JC. It's and old
    Catholic cemetery and their seems to be mostly Irish names on the tombstones. I found relatives buried there from 1862 -1962.
    The phone number for Holy Name is (201) 433-0342. They were very helpful and quick in sending the interment list.
