If anyone knows them......GREAT! But if not I was wondering " How or

NOTES:
As of June 02 2900 Mary Ann was living with her parents, Michael and
Catherine at #36 Gifford Ave Pok.NY, She was a Single, White, Female who
worked at a Factory. She could Read, Write and speak English
During the 1880 Census McGowans lived at 41 Gifford Ave which is nearly diagnal from the Whalen family who resided at 36 Gifford Ave.
In 1880 while Frank McGowan lived at 41 Gifford Ave, which I believe
was a two story two family house the family that shared the house was "Another
Whalen Family" To date I do not know of a connection between the
Whalens who lived at 36 Gifford and the Whalen's who lived at 41 Gifford
Ave.
John and Maria Whalen lived along side the Frank McGowan family. John
who died about 1878 and Maria where also from Ireland and had a few teenage
childen. Maria at the age of 40 was a widow in 1880. John and
Maria had Mary, Hannah, Maggie and little John. All of the children where
born in NY but the parents where born in Ireland. Maria was born about
1840 and John born in Ireland about 1835.
Just down the street from all these families was yet ANOTHER !! Whalen
family. Living at 29 Gifford Ave in 1880 was Daniel and Maggie Whalen
along with their Daughter Julia. Both parents and child where born
in
Ireland which would indicate that this family had to leave Ireland just
about 1865.
NEWBURGH AREA:
Newburgh City Address
Directory of OTHER Whalen Families
I have conducted extensive research into one particular Whalen Family
of the Cornwall>New Windsor area for a person located in California. To
this day I have not yet compiled all the information but I have many notes
and many leads.
I've heard of a "Whalen Drug Store" located on Broadway but have not
yet found the family. I also heard that they may be JEWISH but have
not found anyone with the surname of "Whalen" as being Jewish. But
maybe that would account for why I have not found them in any of the usual
cemeteries.

The MARTIN J and MICHAEL P WHALEN FAMILY OF NEWBURGH
/ NEW WINDSOR / And CORNWALL AREA:
Please Remember its been nearly 7 years since I last looked Martin
Whalen of Newburgh Information so the pieces of the puzzle are somewhat
fuzzy to me still.
Concider all the dates, places etc to be approximate until proven.
( This is my disclaimer). The names WHALEN and WHELAN are sometimes
used interchangably in the newspapers. I tried to type
the Obituaries word for word with misspelling and same spellings.
Enclosed is an indepth look at a Whalen family of the Newburgh Area
that I am NOT related to.(So Far).
Why was I so interested in this family?? Well while living in Cornwall
NY I received a telephone call from a Mr. Tony Intintolli of Vejo
California . He was the Mayor of the city at the time and stated that his
mother was born and partly raise in Cornwall and he was looking for lost
relatives because his mother was adopted out to another family after short
stay in an Ophanage in Scranton PA. Enclosed is some of the information
I had found as well as leads, dead ends, and other information.

STORY:
A son given the name Martin J Whalen was born to to the proud couple
of Mr Peter Whalen and loving wife Catherine Boylan Whalen in Ireland between
January 1864 and 1867. The Whalen family already has a son born to them
between the years of 1862-67 named Michael P Whalen. Martin and Michael
were best of friends and brothers. As they grew up they were blessed with
more brothers named Joseph and Patrick (I think the youngest) and possibly
sisters.
In the years 1880-1882, due to famine, unemployement
and other harsh conditions, Martin at the age of 16-18 years old left his
family and friends and head toward the young, expanding counry with "Roads
paved in Gold and the Land of Milk and Honey". Land was given away for
free-- United States of America. The destination port and port of
arrival are unknown but I assume that he arrived in New York City.
Soon after arriving, Martin had learned that two
of his brothers were soon to arrive. Then in 1883 Martin decided
to forgo his Irish home citizenship and Naturalized and soon after 1885-86
his brother Michael P arrived.
Once Joseph arrived he decided to stay in New York
City but his two other brothers, Martin and Michael, had the itch to explore
and adventure so they headed north (probably on the train) to the Newburgh
Area.
In April 1882 a son, Peter George, was born to Martin and his wife????
in the wonderful state of New York. Then when Peter was approx eight
years old Martin again was gifted with a beautiful baby daughter, Sarah
who was also born in New York.
Sometime very shortly after in 1890 Martin was ?Again? married. He
wed Margaret A Conroy, who was born and raised in the New Windsor area.
Young Mrs. Margaret Whalen was a daughter of Owen Conroy and Bridget McGreevery
Whalen both Born in Ireland but currently living in the New Windsor Area.
Together Margaret and Martin raised two of their own and two children
from Martins' ??First Marriage??

UNFINISHED WORK: FIELD NOTES:
Enclosed are the notes I had written on various pieces of papers regarding
either the Owen Conroy family or Martin Whalen Family . Some I remember
their connections others I do not. Enclosed are my notes for your
future research if you choice to continue it. Some notes are very much
worth following others will be dead ends or not connection at all.
They are not kept in in order or in any arrangement of importance. Please
forgive spelling and Grammer.
( TO MY KNOWLEDGE NONE OF THESE NOTES OR FAMILIES ARE CONNECTED WITH
MY OWN)
